Gonadorelin is a synthetic form of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), the hypothalamic hormone that drives the release of LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) from the pituitary. These hormones are essential for regulating fertility, testosterone, and estrogen production in both men and women. It is studied for its role in fertility support, HPG axis regulation, and reproductive optimization in clinical and research settings. What is GONADORELIN?
Gonadorelin is a synthetic version of natural gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), a ten amino acid peptide made in the hypothalamus. Its sequence is identical to the human hormone.
GnRH is released in pulses and acts on receptors in the pituitary gland. This prompts the release of luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which regulate the testes and ovaries. The timing matters. Pulsed exposure supports this signalling, while continuous exposure can desensitise the pituitary and reduce it. Gonadorelin has a very short half-life of a few minutes.
Also known as: GnRH, LHRH, Gonadotropin-releasing hormone, Luteinising hormone-releasing hormone, Factrel, Lutrepulse
What the research covers
Gonadorelin has been studied in human clinical research for decades. Studies in the 1980s showed that pulsed, low-dose GnRH could start puberty in men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. It has also been studied for ovulation induction and used as a diagnostic test of how well the pituitary works. Laboratory work has compared how gonadorelin and synthetic GnRH agonists bind the GnRH receptor. Gonadorelin has been licensed as a medicine in several countries, mainly for diagnostic use and pulsed fertility therapy, though availability varies.

Frequently asked questions
What does the research on gonadorelin show?
Clinical studies show that pulsed gonadorelin can stimulate LH and FSH release, and it has been studied in hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and ovulation induction. How it is given affects its action.
How is gonadorelin different from triptorelin?
Gonadorelin is identical to natural GnRH and is cleared within minutes. Triptorelin is a modified, longer-acting analogue. With continued use, triptorelin suppresses the hormone signals that gonadorelin is designed to support.
Are there side effects with Gonadorelin?
Side effects can occur. Your GP will review your health, medication and, where relevant, blood results before prescribing, and you should report anything unexpected.
Which formats are available and how should I store them?
Gonadorelin is available as: pen, cartridge, vial (injectable). Your GP will help you choose the most suitable format. Keep unopened lyophilised vials cool and dry, away from light. After reconstitution, refrigerate at 2-8C, protect from light and do not freeze. Keep pens and cartridges refrigerated at 2-8C and do not freeze. Follow the storage instructions on your pharmacy label.
How much Gonadorelin should I take?
Your dose is set by our licensed GP following a consultation, and printed on your pharmacy label.
