LL‑37 is a naturally occurring human antimicrobial peptide from the cathelicidin protein family. It plays a key role in the innate immune system as a first line of defense against bacteria, viruses, and fungi. In addition to its antimicrobial functions, LL‑37 has been investigated for immune modulation, wound healing, tissue regeneration, and inflammatory balance. ⚗️ Product Features 🧪 Human‑derived cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide 🛡️ Involved in innate immune defense mechanisms 📈 Supports cellular migration & repair pathways ✅ ≥98 % purity verified by HPLC 📄 Batch‑specific Certificates of Analysis (COAs) included 💧 Sterile, lyophilized peptide for research applications 🔬 Human‑Relevant Research Applications 🛡️ Innate Antimicrobial Activity & Immune Response LL‑37 is a key component of the human innate immune system, exhibiting broad‑spectrum antimicrobial activity and supporting immune cell recruitment and pathogen defense mechanisms. 🔗 https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10989-025-10778-z — LL‑37 shows antimicrobial activity against diverse clinical bacterial isolates and plays an important role in human innate immunity. 🩹 Wound Healing & Tissue Regeneration LL‑37 has been shown to promote re‑epithelialization, cell proliferation, and epithelial migration in human skin tissue models, indicating roles in tissue repair and healing. 🔗 https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/12603850/ — LL‑37 is involved in re‑epithelialization of human skin wounds and is upregulated during wound healing. 🧾 Mechanism Summary 🦠 Supports broad antimicrobial defense across bacterial and other pathogen classes 🧠 Modulates immune cell activity and signaling 🩹 Promotes tissue repair and wound closure pathways 🔄 Contributes to immunological and inflammatory balance in innate responses 🔄 Reconstitution & Handling Guidance 1️⃣ Reconstitute using sterile bacteriostatic water2️⃣ Add appropriate volume based on research protocol3️⃣ Gently swirl — do not shake4️⃣ Store reconstituted peptide at 4–10 °C5️⃣ Refrigerate unopened vials until use ❓ Frequently Asked Research Questions What is LL‑37 primarily studied for?LL‑37 is studied as a key innate immune peptide with antimicrobial breadth and roles in wound healing, immune regulation, and tissue repair. What is LL-37?
LL-37 is the only cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide made by the human body. It is cut from a larger precursor protein called hCAP18. The name reflects its first two amino acids, two leucines, and its length of 37 amino acids.
It is produced by white blood cells and by cells lining the skin, gut and airways. LL-37 can disrupt bacterial membranes. It also signals to immune cells and has been linked to inflammation, wound repair and blood vessel formation. Levels rise in response to infection and injury.
Also known as: Cathelicidin, Human cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide, hCAP18 (precursor), CAMP
What the research covers
LL-37 has been studied extensively in laboratory settings for activity against bacteria, fungi and biofilms. Animal and cell studies have looked at its roles in wound healing, immune signalling and some cancers. Research suggests its effects depend on context, and it has been linked to both protective and inflammatory roles, for example in rosacea and psoriasis. Human studies are small and early stage, such as topical use in leg ulcers. LL-37 is not approved as a medicine by the US FDA.

Frequently asked questions
Which formats are available and how should I store LL-37?
LL-37 is available as a vial of freeze-dried powder. Your GP will advise which format suits you. Keep lyophilised vials cool, dry and away from light; once reconstituted, refrigerate at 2-8C, protect from light and do not freeze. Follow the storage instructions on your pharmacy label.
Is LL-37 an antibiotic?
No. LL-37 is a natural antimicrobial peptide that has been studied for activity against microbes in the laboratory. It is not an approved antibiotic and should not replace treatment prescribed for an infection.
What does the research show?
LL-37 has been widely studied in cells and animals for antimicrobial, immune and wound repair roles. Human studies are small and early. It should not be viewed as a proven treatment.
Are there side effects?
Side effects can occur. Your GP will review your health, medication and, where relevant, blood results before prescribing, and you should report anything unexpected.
