Tesamorelin Pen

Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH), structurally modified to enhance stability and biological activity. It is one of the most clinically validated peptides available, with an extensive research history and recognised applications in metabolic health and body composition. What Tesamorelin is studied for: Visceral fat reduction - Tesamorelin has been studied in multiple clinical settings for its role in reducing visceral adipose tissue - the metabolically active fat stored around internal organs. It is one of the most researched peptides for this specific outcome Growth hormone stimulation - Works by stimulating the pituitary gland's natural production of growth hormone through the GHRH pathway, supporting the body's own hormonal processes rather than introducing exogenous hormones Metabolic and cardiovascular health - Research explores its influence on triglyceride levels, insulin sensitivity, and metabolic markers associated with cardiovascular health Body composition - Studied for its role in improving lean-to-fat mass ratios, particularly in the context of age-related metabolic changes Tesamorelin represents one of the most rigorously researched growth hormone secretagogues available, with a body of clinical evidence distinguishing it from less-studied alternatives.

What is Tesamorelin Pen?

Tesamorelin is a synthetic analogue of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). It contains all 44 amino acids of natural human GHRH, with a trans-3-hexenoic acid group added at the start. This change helps protect it from breakdown in the body.

Tesamorelin acts on GHRH receptors in the pituitary gland. This prompts the body to release its own growth hormone in pulses, rather than supplying growth hormone directly. Growth hormone then raises levels of IGF-1 and is involved in fat metabolism. It is given by injection under the skin.

Also known as: Egrifta, TH9507, Tesamorelin acetate, GHRH analogue

What are peptides?

What the research covers

Tesamorelin has been studied in large randomised, placebo-controlled human trials. Phase 3 trials in people with HIV and excess abdominal fat reported reductions in visceral fat measured by CT scan over 26 weeks, compared with placebo. It has also been studied in smaller trials for liver fat and cognitive ageing. Reported side effects included joint pain, injection site reactions and changes in blood sugar. Tesamorelin is approved by the US FDA as Egrifta to reduce excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. It is not approved for general weight loss.

Frequently asked questions

Is tesamorelin approved?

Yes, for one use. The US FDA approved it as Egrifta to reduce excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. Other uses are off-label and your GP will discuss this with you.

How is it different from sermorelin or CJC-1295?

All three act on GHRH receptors. Sermorelin is a shorter 29-amino-acid fragment. Tesamorelin is the full 44-amino-acid sequence with a stabilising modification, and it is the one with large phase 3 trial data.

What formats are available and how are they stored?

It is available as a pen, cartridge or vial. Keep pens and cartridges in the fridge, and refrigerate vials after reconstitution, away from light. Follow the storage instructions on your pharmacy label.

Are there side effects?

Side effects can occur. Your GP will review your health, medication and, where relevant, blood results before prescribing, and you should report anything unexpected.

How much should I take?

Your dose is set by our licensed GP following a consultation, and printed on your pharmacy label.
