THYMOSIN ALPHA (Tα1)

Thymosin Alpha‑1 (Tα1) is a naturally occurring thymic peptide recognized for its powerful immune‑modulating properties. Originally isolated from the thymus gland, it plays a crucial role in stimulating T‑cell activity, enhancing immune defense mechanisms, reducing inflammation, and supporting resistance to infections. Thymosin Alpha‑1 has been widely studied in clinical settings related to immune regulation, chronic illness management, infection response, and systemic inflammation modulation. In modern wellness and longevity research, it is valued for its ability to strengthen immune balance, support inflammation control, and promote overall resilience. What is THYMOSIN ALPHA (Tα1)?

Thymosin alpha-1 is a 28-amino-acid peptide first isolated from thymosin fraction 5, an extract of calf thymus. It is naturally cut from a larger protein called prothymosin alpha. The synthetic form, thymalfasin, is identical to the natural peptide and carries an acetyl group at its start.

Thymosin alpha-1 is thought to act as an immune modulator. Research suggests it interacts with toll-like receptors on immune cells. It has been studied for effects on T cell maturation and on the balance between immune activation and tolerance.

Also known as: Thymalfasin, Tα1, TA1, Zadaxin

What are peptides?

What the research covers

Thymosin alpha-1 has a larger human evidence base than many peptides. It has been studied in clinical trials in chronic hepatitis B and C, as a vaccine adjuvant, in sepsis and alongside cancer treatment. Results vary by condition, and some meta-analyses report possible benefit while noting study quality concerns. Its use in healthy ageing has been studied far less, and early research in this area is largely theoretical. Thymalfasin is approved under the brand name Zadaxin in a number of countries, mainly for chronic hepatitis B and C. It is not approved by the US FDA.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as Zadaxin?

Zadaxin is the branded form of thymalfasin, approved in some countries for chronic hepatitis B and C. Our product is a compounded preparation of the same peptide, prescribed by our GP. It is not the branded medicine.

How is thymosin alpha-1 different from Thymalin?

Thymosin alpha-1 is one defined 28-amino-acid peptide. Thymalin is a mixture of short thymus-derived peptides. Both have been studied for immune function.

Which formats are available and how do I store them?

We supply thymosin alpha-1 as a pen, cartridge or vial. Keep pens, cartridges and reconstituted vials refrigerated at 2-8°C. Follow the storage instructions on your pharmacy label.

Are there side effects?

Side effects can occur. Your GP will review your health, medication and, where relevant, blood results before prescribing, and you should report anything unexpected.

How much will I take?

Your dose is set by our licensed GP following a consultation, and printed on your pharmacy label.
